On September 26, 2024, the Institute for International and Area Studies (IIAS) of Tsinghua University invited Maitrii Aung-Thwin, Associate Professor of the Department of History of the National University of Singapore, to give a themed lecture entitled "Myanmar Political Crisis in Historical Perspective: 1948-2024". The lecture was hosted by Li Yuqing, Assistant Researcher of IIAS, and attended by more than 100 scholars and students from domestic and foreign universities and professionals interested in the topic.

Professor Aung-Thwin firstly used rich and vivid photos to review the traditional narrative of the Myanmar crisis since 2020-2021, and then used different chronological sequences and thematic backgrounds to construct and explain the narrative of this event. After the lecture, the audience actively asked questions, and Professor Aung-Thwin and audience had in-depth exchanges on issues such as "Comparative Analysis of the Rule of Myanmar and Thailand", "The Impact of Social Media on Future Elections", and "The Prospects of Compromise of Different Ethnic Groups in the Context of the Normalization of Ethnic Conflicts in Myanmar".

Maitrii Aung-Thwin, Associate Professor of the Department of History, National University of Singapore, Deputy Director of the Asia Research Institute, and Director of the Doctoral Program in Comparative Asian Studies. His research interests include nation-state construction, identity, public history, infrastructure, and Buddhist networks in Southeast Asia and South Asia. Professor Aung Tun’s major publications include the monograph The Return of the Galon King: History, Law, and Rebellion in Colonial Burma and the co-authored books A History of Myanmar since Ancient Times: Traditions and Transformations and A New History of Southeast Asia.
